Last week we talked about kinetic and potential energy. I mentioned a fun experiment to the girls- dropping Mentos in a diet soda bottle will cause a stream of diet soda and bubbles to launch from the bottle. Any girl that can tell me WHY this happens will get to do the experiment at tonight's meeting. Those that cannot explain the reaction will get to watch and learn from the other girls.
Today is the first meeting of the month, which means Show and Tell!
Girls who worked on Project Earth for Coucil can bring in their
projects- or anything else she wishes to share. Each girl needs to
prepare a one minute speech about her item. This helps develop public
speaking skills for the shy ones, and limits the chatty ones so that
everyone gets a turn and we can still accomplish our badge work for the
day.
This week the girls will continue working from the "Get Moving" Journey book.By the time we finish the book, the girls will have earned three patches (Energize, Investigate, and Innovate) and be on their way to earning their Girl Scout Bronze Awards.
Lisa noticed a sign requesting volunteers to help clean up local hiking trails here in town. In keeping with our Earthy theme this month, we asked the girls if they were interested. Of course they were very excited. As soon as we have a date we will add that event to the calendar.
We plan to have our Troop sleepover one of the first three Saturdays in June (6/2, 6/9, or 6/16.) Some of our girls earned Cookie Swim Club passes and we have to wait for Council to assign dates to those girls before we can finalize our sleepover date. The kids voted to combine the sleepover with their next Court of Awards. All personal badge work must be completed the week prior to the sleepover for her to receive the patches that night.
If you still have your daughter's Permission Packet, please send it back so we can prepare it for the Trail Cleanup and the Sleepover. Additionally, families with outstanding cookie balances should understand that cookie prizes will be shipped sometime soon and Council will not release prizes for girls that owe money.
If you have any questions, just give me a call. Thanks!
