General Patch Information
Where to Place Insignia on the Uniform.Only the round Junior badges/Journey badges are allowed on the front of the uniform. All other patches (cookie badges, participation patches, etc.) go on the back of the uniform. (The general rule is if the badge came from an official Junior Girl Scout Book, it goes on the front. If not, it goes on the back.) When deciding placement for patches, remember to keep them close together, or overlap them if she's an active Scout- most of our girls will be wearing this uniform for two years. (Scouts are Juniors for 4th and 5th grades.)
Several badges come in "iron on" form. I personally find it difficult to iron them on, as the patches are so thick and sometimes the adhesive does not hold well. Check the uniform periodically to be sure none are falling off. I suggest sewing all patches onto the uniform. There is also a product called "Patch Attach," found in crafting stores, which works like a glue for badges- though I do not know how well it works. Additionally, I will sew the patches on for you in exchange for a small monetary donation to the Troop.
All work for Earned Badges, like the round ones on the front of the vest and Council Patches, should be documented. For Fun Patches received away from the Troop, Scouts should be able to share information about the activity with the troop.
Once the patch is on the uniform, the girl should be able to tell others what the badge is called and and what she did to earn it. Recognitions will be awarded at Court of Awards Ceremonies throughout the year. Recognitions earned at meetings are paid for by the Troop. Participation Patches can be paid for by the troop, or by the individual, depending on the circumstances.
