Girl Scout Holidays

Girl Scout Holidays
There are many Girl Scout Holidays throughout the year. We will celebrate them on the actual day, the closest meeting, or at special planned weekend events.

The information on this page was pulled from various Girl Scout resources around the internet. If you would like more information on any of these holidays you can perform a Google search, or look in your Scout Handbook.

World Thinking Day: February 22
Each year on February 22, World Thinking Day, girls participate in activities and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries. World Thinking Day not only gives girls a chance to celebrate international friendships, but is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community—one of nearly 150 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
World Thinking Day is part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts Global Action Theme (GAT) based on the United Nation's Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which aim to improve the lives of the world's poorest people. Here is a link to the World Thinking Day website.

Girl Scout Week: The Sunday- Saturday that sandwiches the Girl Scout Birthday (March 12)
Celebrated each March, starting with Girl Scout Sunday and ending with Girl Scout Sabbath on a Saturday, and it always includes the Girl Scout Birthday, March 12. Each day of Girl Scout Week is themed:
Sunday: Girl Scout Sunday, Monday: Homemaking Day, Tuesday: Citizenship Day, Wednesday: Health and Safety Day, Thursday: International Friendship Day, Friday: The Arts Day, Saturday: Out of Doors Day (also Girl Scout Sabbath) For GS Week badge activity ideas, please visit our Helpful Info tab.
Many businesses offer Scout discounts and incentives during Girl Scout Week.

Girl Scout Birthday: March 12
Commemorates the day in 1912 when Juliette Gordon Low officially registered the organization's first 18 girl members in Savannah, Georgia. Scouts can celebrate by throwing a party with their troop or with other Scouts- complete with birthday cake and party favors.
Leader's Day: April 22
Girl Scout Leader Day recognizes and honors the many adult volunteers in the Girl Scouting program. Girl Scout Leader Day began on April 22, 1982, when a flag honoring Girl Scout leaders was flown over the Capitol building in Washington, D.C. This day honors the thousands of volunteers who help to make the Girl Scout program a success. Celebrate by thanking Girl Scout leaders and volunteers in your troop and area. Send a note, or card of thanks. Girl Scout groups can hold parties or have a cake at meetings. Gift are not a requirement, or an expectation. One of the ways Girl Scouts can thank their leaders is to do their best in everything they do. Your leaders get their reward by seeing you grow into outstanding citizens and human beings!

October 31: Founder's Day/ Juliette Gordon Low's Birthday (and Halloween!)
Girls Scouts celebrate Juliette Gordon Low's birthday in various ways—with parties, service projects, events to thank donors, even special cakes. In honor of Low's love of tea parties, some Scouts host a mother/daughter tea party, complete with hats, gloves, and teatime etiquette.
