Today we are going on a hike! We will meet at the Squabble Creek bike trail at 2201 N. Lakeshore. Please wear JEANS, appropriate trail shoes (no flipflops) and bring a full water bottle. A light backpack or fanny pack might be ideal for carrying her water bottle, her personal first aid kit, sunscreen, bug spray, and any interesting objects she might find on our hike. Also make sure to use the bathroom BEFORE arriving. Parents are welcome to join us or drop off/pick up.
After this hike, most of the girls will have completed their Camper Badge requirements!
The new Scout year begins in October. Everyone will need to reregister. The cost is $12. We are currently seeking a new meeting venue. If you have any ideas or connections please let me know. Additionally, our troop will be growing. We are currently accepting 5th grade girls and willing parent volunteers. The volunteer commitment is whatever you have time for. There are some meetings and events at which additional supervision is required. There are other times when we just need extra hands. I need some help with the Adopt-a-Grandparent project. If you, or anyone you know might be interested in volunteering for anything please let me know.
I'm having to update the blog from the ipad, which doesn't allow full access to everything. I hope to get the troop calendar fully updated soon, but for now here is a rough outline of the next few months:
Meetings on Mondays,630pm. This is subject to change. I have Service Unit Leader meetings once a month on Mondays at the same time so those troop meetings might be cancelled or run by another registered volunteer. After I have the SU Leader Meeting schedule I will smooth out our Troop Meeting schedule.
After everyone is registered for the new year we will have our Rededication/Investiture Ceremony and Court of Awards.
Saturday September 22 the troop wants to participate in Rockwall's Rubber Duck Regatta. If you/your family plan to attend, please let me know. The RSVP list and event post will be up soon.
Saturday October 13 we hope to attend the overnighter at the Dallas Zoo. Moms wanting to attend should contact me ASAP.
The Service Unit Night Hike is coming up in November. I think it's the third weekend. I'll have the actual date soon.
The SU Cookie Kickoff Rolling Skating party will be in December. (Cookies don't start til Jan/Feb)
SU Camp will be in February. The girls had a great time at the last one. I know they'll love going again.
Amri and I just returned from Leader-Daughter Girl Scout Camp. It was lots of fun! During "Turtle Time" (when the kids have quiet play time in their cabins) the leaders got together to brainstorm for the upcoming Scouting year. Lots of excellent new ideas sprang up. It should be another fabulous year of Girl Scouts!
